Shipping
Zones, rates, weights and connecting Shiprocket.
Shipping has two halves: deciding what to charge the customer, and actually despatching the parcel. You can do the first without the second.
The minimum that works
Set a flat rate under Settings → Shipping and you can take orders today. Everything below is refinement.
| Flat rate | Charged when no other rule produces a price |
| Free shipping over | Order value above which shipping is free. Leave blank to always charge. |
| Shipping markup % | Added to live courier rates, if you use them |
Zones and rates
Under Shipping you can define zones — groups of pincodes — each with its own methods. Typical setups are "local", "same state", "rest of India", each priced differently.
- Assign pincodes to a zone by range rather than one at a time.
- Zones have a priority order, which decides the winner when two of them cover the same pincode.
- Each zone can have several methods — a flat rate and a free-over-amount, say.
Weight-based rates
Rates can be calculated from real weight. That only works if your products carry real weights:
Weight is set per variant, in grams, on the product. A catalog with no weights will quote the same shipping for a keyring and a coffee table, and you absorb the difference on every heavy order.
Connecting Shiprocket
Shiprocket gives you live courier rates and lets you book shipments from the order screen, without keeping a courier portal open in another tab.
Integrations → Shiprocket:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Account email and Password | Your Shiprocket login |
| Pickup pincode | Where parcels leave from. Used for rate lookups. |
| Pickup location name | The nickname registered in Shiprocket — it must match exactly |
| Channel ID | Optional |
| Auto-create shipment on paid | Books the shipment automatically when an order is paid |
| Tracking webhook token | A secret you choose; set the same one on the Shiprocket webhook so tracking updates arrive automatically |
| Package dimensions | Default length, breadth and height in cm |
| Default item weight | Grams, used when a variant has no weight of its own |
Set the default dimensions to something honest. Couriers charge on volumetric weight as well as actual weight, so a default box far larger than what you really ship quietly inflates every rate you are quoted — and every rate you pass on.
Automatic or manual
With Auto-create shipment on paid on, a shipment is created as soon as an order is paid. Leave it off while you are learning the flow, so you see each step before it happens on its own.
