Products

Adding products, variants, images, pricing and stock.

A product is the thing you sell. If it comes in sizes or colours, those are variants of one product — not separate products.

Adding a product

Products → Add product. The fields, and what each actually affects:

FieldWhat it does
NameWhat customers see, and what search matches against.
CategoryWhere it appears in navigation and category pages.
DescriptionThe body copy on the product page.
PriceThe base price. Variants can override it individually.
Statusdraft, active or archived. Only active products appear on the storefront.
HSN codeStored per product, for GST-compliant invoicing.
Meta title / descriptionOverrides for search results. Optional — sensible defaults are used.

Leave it in draft while you work. A product saved as active with no photos and a placeholder price is live to customers the moment you press save.

Variants

Variants are generated from attributes — Size, Colour, and whatever else you define. Define the attribute once, reuse it across products. See Categories and attributes.

Each variant carries its own:

SKUYour own code. Used on picking lists, exports and stock updates.
PriceOverrides the base price for that combination.
Compare-at priceThe struck-through "was" price. Leave blank for no discount display.
Weight in gramsWhat shipping rates are actually calculated from.
ActiveSwitch off a combination you no longer sell without deleting its history.

Fill in the weights. Shipping is calculated from them. A catalog with no weights quotes the same shipping for a keyring and a coffee table, and you pay the difference on every heavy order.

Stock

Per variant, under the same form:

Track stockOff for made-to-order or unlimited items.
On handHow many you have.
Low-stock thresholdWhen it starts appearing in low-stock reports.
Allow backorderWhether customers can buy past zero.

Set the low-stock threshold to cover your restock lead time, not to 1. Finding out at zero is finding out too late.

Images

  • Upload several; drag to reorder; set one as primary — that is the one on category pages and in search.
  • Write alt text on each. It is read aloud to customers using a screen reader, shown when an image fails to load, and read by search engines.
  • Shoot everything to the same aspect ratio. Mixed ratios make a tidy catalog look untidy.
  • Images are compressed to WebP automatically. Upload the good version; do not pre-shrink.

Custom product sections

Extra titled blocks on the product page — care instructions, sizing, materials, what's-in-the-box. Better than one enormous description, because customers scan rather than read.

A sensible workflow

  1. Create the attributes you need once, before the first product.
  2. Do one product completely: photos, description, variants, weights, stock, SEO.
  3. Look at it on the storefront, on a phone.
  4. Fix whatever is wrong — then do the rest, having learned it once.
